EMS Instructor Course (110B)

This course is designed for those who wish to be eligible to teach others in the EMS field.


After completing this course, instructors will be able to teach to the level of their training. However, this class does not meet the requirements for those who want to teach in the firefighting setting.

This class teaches future instructors the components of the learning process, methods of teaching (teaching theory and teaching skills), preparation and use of a variety of media and materials, and purpose and methods of evaluation.

Upon successful completion of class, the student will be required to instruct a minimum of 10 hours under the supervision of a current EMS Instructor in order to apply for State of Nevada certification.


A State of Nevada EMT-B, EMT-I, or Paramedic certification, and one letter of recommendation from someone of EMS experience in either the field or in education.


We have a strict attendance policy in accordance with the State of Nevada. Students are not allowed to miss more than six hours of class. Any students missing more than the allotted time will be not allowed to continue, and will be withdrawn from the class.

EMS Grading

B= 91-86%
C= 85-80%
F=73% and below

To be able to take the class final and complete the course, students must have the following cumulative average:

  • 80% for EMS Instructor, EMT, EMT Advanced, EMT Refresher
  • 75% for Emergency Medical Responder

Career Opportunities

Successful students will be eligible to apply for EMS instructor positions. Possible employers include: colleges, universities, EMS agencies, fire departments, and mines.
