Paramedic Program Admission Application

Admission Procedures

Admission to the Paramedic Program (Certificate of Achievement) is limited and requires special procedures. Applications for the Paramedic Program are currently open and being accepted until 5 p.m. on June 2, 2014.

Step 1: Begin by completing and submitting this online Paramedic Program Application (see below).

Important: Candidates must also submit a resume and one-page letter stating why the candidate desires to become a Paramedic. These files must be submitted electronically through this application.

Step 2: Provide proof of minimum qualifications and the following information:

  1. All candidates must provide proof of a current, valid Nevada EMT certification (minimum EMT-Basic) and pass a background check through Pre-Check.
  2. Copy of High school diploma or GED
  3. Copy of current AHA healthcare provider CPR or ARC Professional Rescuer CPR
  4. Application for admission to TMCC
  5. Two letters of recommendation from EMS employer, EMS instructor or other professional reference
  6. Unofficial transcripts of prior college level education.

Selection Process

Application review will take place on June 3 and 4, 2014. Those meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to a written exam on June 16, 2014. The written exam will be a computer based exam and will measure basic EMT knowledge, reading level, writing level, math level and test anxiety level. Those that pass the written exam will be invited to an oral interview.

Oral interviews will be conducted on June 23 and 24, 2014. Candidates that are successful in both the written and interview phases will be notified of their acceptance to the Paramedic Prep Course that begins on August 4, 2014.

The Prep Course will be pre-requisite to the Paramedic Program and mandatory for any candidates desiring to be accepted into the Paramedic Program. The Paramedic Prep Course will be a 3 week, Monday thru Friday, for credit course and will cover review/remediation of basic EMS skills, anatomy and physiology, medical math and medical terminology. The Prep course will be the final competitive aspect for acceptance into the Paramedic Program. 30 candidates will be accepted into the Prep Course and 24 of those candidates will be accepted into the Paramedic Program beginning on August 25, 2014.

Post Acceptance

Once accepted into the program, you must provide proof of the following:

  1. Satisfy all general college admission requirements
  2. Pass a physical DOT examination
  3. Current MMR immunization or appropriate titer levels
  4. Diphtheria-tetanus immunizations within last five years
  5. Hepatitis-B immunization within the last five years or appropriate titer levels
  6. Proof of chicken pox, varicella immunization or appropriate titer levels
  7. Negative TB skin test or chest x-ray within the last six months
  8. Major medical insurance, which has to be maintained throughout the program
  9. Be at least 18 years of age or older upon program beginning date
  10. 5-panel negative drug test from ARC or a medical facility

Failure to provide proof of these items by the first day of class will result in dismissal from the Paramedic Program.
