Early Childhood Education Certificate and Degrees

The ECE program offers a Certificate of Achievement and Associate degrees in several areas of specialization in Early Care and Education, including work with infants and toddlers, preschool age children, and administration of early childhood programs. In addition, individual courses provide continuing education and in-service training for early childhood professionals to meet their ongoing training needs.

Coursework includes theory and foundations of child growth and development; child health, safety and nutrition; child guidance; curriculum planning; administration of ECE programs; professionalism and ethics; observation and assessment; working with parents and families; and understanding children with challenging conditions.

In addition, the program offers specialized courses for working with infants and toddlers, school age children and program administration. Upon completion of coursework, students foster the physical, cognitive, language, creative and social-emotional development of young children. Students learn to apply their knowledge of child growth and development through practical experiences in early childhood programs.

The State of Nevada currently supports students studying Early Childhood Education through scholarships in the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Nevada. Other statewide initiatives include the Nevada Registry and Career Ladder, and the Office of Early Care and Education.

Academic Advisement

Academic advising services are an essential element of the TMCC student support system. It is highly recommended that ECE students seek academic advisement before registering each semester, periodically during your studies, before transferring to another college or university and/or before graduating. Students may contact the TMCC Academic Advisement office, but are encouraged to seek academic advisement directly from one of the members of the ECE faculty. Academic advisement may also be a required step for students in the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood ® Nevada program.
