My Plan (www.myplan.com)
This website has an extensive database offering information in four categories: Assessments, Careers, Majors and Colleges. Nearly everything is free for public use except very low fees for the assessments (interests, personality, values, etc.) Most notable is their community focus with about 3,000 forums for members across the country to share experiences and exchange opinions about any of the content plus meeting people in specific occupations. Great for networking.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, providing assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. Each occupation has eight web "pages": a summary page and seven more with each describing one aspect of the occupation, such as pay. The summary page is easy to scan and allows readers the option of navigating directly to an area of interest. The Handbook is revised every two years. Free.
The O*NET program—the Occupational Information Network—is the nation's primary source of occupational information. This database contains information on hundreds of standardized and occupation-specific descriptors. It is continually updated by surveying a broad range of workers from each occupation. It also provides Career Exploration Tools, a set of valuable assessment instruments for workers and students looking to find or change careers. Free.
