Certification as a Nursing Assistant

Students who successfully complete the TMCC CNA Program are eligible to apply for certification in the state of their choice. Each state has specific criteria for certification eligibility requirements; some students elect to take the certification examination in Nevada and then apply for out of state certification.

Each state Board of Nursing determines requirements for certification; it is the student’s responsibility to contact the state of their choice to ascertain eligibility requirements.

Completion of an approved program is only one of the requirements and does not mean automatic certification as a Nursing Assistant.

The State of Nevada certification application contains five questions which may impact their ability to obtain certification in Nevada. These five questions have to do with:

  • Revocation, denial, or suspension of a license or certificate,
  • Conviction of a criminal offense,
  • Problems with drug or alcohol use,
  • Treatment for mental illness, and
  • Physical disability which could impair ability to practice nursing.

For further information, students should contact the TMCC CNA Coordinator or the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
