Career Services' Four-step Process

Learn about yourself (interests, values, skills and personality preferences).

  1. Interests: Identify your occupational interest areas and compatible job titles. Two assessments are available.
    • Choices Interest Profiler (Free): Complete this free assessment; it takes about 20 to 30 minutes. It helps you to identify your interest theme code on the Holland scale and generates a list of matching occupations.
    • The Strong Interest Inventory ($15): Find out more about this popular interest inventory. This assessment requires an appointment with a career counselor.
  2. Values: Learn why values are important to you, as a person and as a worker. Values can be identified through a counselor interview or through one of our card sorts.
    • Career Values. This assessment requires that you meet with a career counselor.
  3. Skills: Explore your natural abilities and key transferable skills. These are your skills. Skills can be identified through the Choices program or one of two card sorts.

    • SkillScan: Identify your natural strengths and key transferable skills for use in your career development.
  4. Personality: Recognize your personality preferences that can help you identify work environments which might be a good fit for you. We offer three personality assessments.
    • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ($25): Learn more about why you may want to take the MBTI. This assessment requires a prior appointment with a career counselor.
    • Keirsey Temperament Sorter (Free): Complete this 72-item questionnaire that types your temperament, which can help in career decision-making.

This course is the place to start! Taught by Student Development Unit faculty, you'll complete several assessments that will help you identify your career interests, values, and skills. You'll also learn about current labor trends, identify potential careers, create effective resumes, practice interview skills, and develop a personalized career action plan. This practical, interactive course will help you throughout your career!
