As a SkillsUSA participant, you have many opportunities for growth through industry-relevant training and competition. These events reward you for excellence and prepare you with the technical, academic, and employability skills that will help you get a job and have a successful career.
To help SkillsUSA competitors excel further, TMCC awards scholarships to the top gold and silver medal winners in the annual state competition. High school and college competitors are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Eligibility
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. By involving industry in directly evaluating student performance, the state competition rewards students for excellence and keeps training relevant to employers' needs.
Top medal winners in the competition are eligible to apply for this scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a graduating Nevada high school senior or continuing TMCC full-time student.
- Attend TMCC in the Fall 2007 semester with a minimum of six credits.
- Have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or higher.
- Be a current SkillsUSA member.
- Win a gold or silver medal in the 2007 Nevada SkillsUSA competition.
Selection Process
This scholarship is intended to encourage and support students in the SkillsUSA organization. TMCC will award $1,000 scholarships to two gold medal winners and $500 to two silver medal winners from the 2007 Nevada SkillsUSA competition. Scholarship payments will be divided equally for the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 academic semesters at TMCC. Recipients will be notified by June 15, 2007.
Besides winning at the state competition, scholarships will be awarded based upon the following criteria:
- Academic achievement based upon GPA and rigor of completed courses.
- Involvement in SkillsUSA organizing activities.
- Contributions to the community.
- Essay response.
- Advisor's recommendation.
Application
To be considered, your complete application must be submitted by May 15, 2007. The application is available online.
Your application must include the following:
- Completed application form, including essay describing your SkillsUSA involvement and career goals.
- Current academic transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
- Recommendation from your SkillsUSA advisor or instructor (local or state level).
