Renewable Energy
New: Check out the performance of the 11kW solar energy system at the TMCC Applied Technologies Center.
Renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies are driving significant economic growth in the United States. In recent years, these industries generated 8.5 million new jobs nationally.
Nevada is rapidly becoming a leader in the clean energy industry. With an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, Nevada ranks first in solar resources. The state is also the largest producer of geothermal energy per capita in the nation. Government incentives are also making renewable energy alternatives attractive for commercial and residential buildings. Growth of this exciting new industry, however, depends on the availability of skilled technicians.
Beginning in January 2009, TMCC will offer a new construction technologies associate of applied science degree with an emphasis on renewable energy. It will provide the classroom and hands-on training necessary for renewable energy professionals. Additional non-credit workshops and seminars also will be offered periodically to help working adults upgrade their skills and respond to industry needs.
