Success First Program

Have you chosen to pursue higher education? You can be the first in your family to graduate from college!

About the Program

  • The Success First program goal is to increase the college readiness, persistence, retention and graduation rates of first-time, full-time, first generation students at TMCC.
  • The program utilizes a summer bridge program to give students a jump start to college, gain information about science technology, math and engineering, growing career fields, and academic/motivational support during their first year at TMCC.

Who is Eligible for Success First?

  • Apply and be admitted to TMCC for summer 2013.
  • First generation (neither parent/guardian has earned a bachelor's degree in the U.S.).*
  • Place in ENG 98R or higher, and MATH 95 or higher (with qualifying ACT/SAT/ACCUPLACER score).
  • Submit 2013-2014 FAFSA and demonstrate financial need.*

*Exceptions will be considered for students demonstrating strong interest.

Program Requirements

2013 Bridge

  • Participants will be required to attend a 5-week program from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday from July 1-August 1, 2013.
  • Attendance is mandatory.

2013-2014 Academic Year

  • Participants will be placed on a registration hold for 2013-2014.
  • Meet twice a semester with a Success Coach to review their academic progress and have registration hold removed.
  • Maintain a 2.0+ GPA and satisfactory progress in courses.
  • Participate in one financial aid workshop each semester.

Student Benefits

2013 Bridge

  • $800 awarded in fall 2013 for successfully completing the 2013 Summer Bridge program.
  • FREE college classes (math/English), books, and lunch during Summer Bridge 2013.

2013-2014 Academic Year

  • Assigned a Success Coach during the first year at TMCC to review progress and gain support.
  • Priority registration for spring 2013 and fall 2014 semesters.
