Anthropology Success Stories - Meet Toby!
Meet Toby!
Toby spent his childhood years in Central California and the Lake Tahoe region. He supported his schooling with several jobs at Tahoe ski resorts, and later worked as an herbal remedy specialist at a natural food store in Truckee, California. Toby discovered anthropology when he began his studies at TMCC and decided to pursue anthropology professionally.
Toby transferred to University of Nevada, Reno where he received his bachelor of arts degree in Anthropology. Although he has explored the possibility of pursuing research in Chinese historical archaeology and medicinal ethnobotany, he is now determined to earn his doctorate degree with a specialty in Asian paleoanthropology.
While taking his upper division courses at UNR, he also took private lessons in Mandarin and then participated in a Studies Abroad Program in central China in Spring 2000. He learned first hand about Asian cultures by spending a month of his time abroad traveling with a fellow classmate throughout much of central China.
Toby e-mailed "letters from the field" about his experiences.
