Academic Advisement

Welcome to Academic Advisement, Transfer Center, and International Student Advising Services at Truckee Meadows Community College.

We are here to help you achieve your educational goals. Academic advising and transfer services are an essential element of the Truckee Meadows Community College student support system. Academic Advisors are available throughout the year to help students explore educational planning, majors, transfer procedures, class selection and other information about the college.

New college students are required to attend SOAR—Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration—a two-part process. During SOAR, we will introduce you to resources available to help you be successful in college, assist you in developing a 1st-semester educational plan, and discuss important information for financing your education. If you have already completed this requirement, you likely have met many of our Academic Advisors.

In addition to SOAR, TMCC highly recommends that you seek academic advisement before you register each semester, periodically during your studies, before transferring to another college or university and/or before graduating.

Continuing, international, and new transfer students can visit our office to schedule an individual advising appointment to discuss declaring a degree, understanding degree requirements, developing an educational plan, and learn more about transferring to other colleges and universities after graduating from TMCC.

In our advising lab we offer group advising workshops, including On Track to Graduate, in which you will learn about all the advisement tools available through your MyTMCC student center. The advising lab is also available during open registration for students to enroll in classes and utilize online advising tools.
