Commencement Information
Commencement 2013
Have you completed your graduation application?
Date and Location: TMCC will hold commencement on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC). Graduates should arrive dressed in their caps and gowns no later than 9 a.m. and proceed directly to Room D4 on the south side of the convention center for instructions (see detailed map
). The ceremony will last approximately two hours. Please make sure cell phones are silenced before the ceremony.
Please RSVP by May 15, Via email at graduation@tmcc.edu, if you plan to attend. Your RSVP helps us assure that you have a seat among your fellow graduates on this important day.
Decorum: All participants are expected to dress appropriately in honor of the occasion and to exhibit mature behavior during the commencement activities. All participants are asked to remain in the seating area throughout the ceremony. Please make sure cell phones are SILENCED before the ceremony begins.
Announcements/Academic Attire: (Price subject to change) Cap, gown and tassel are to be purchased in the TMCC Bookstore, Dandini Campus. The cost is $34.95 for academic attire (cap, gown and tassel). Caps are available for $6.50. Tassels are available for $6.00. The Bookstore will have academic attire in stock 4-6 weeks before commencement. Students may also purchase announcements. The cost is $16 for a pack of 10 announcements. Thank you cards are available for $10. For more information, please call the Bookstore at 775-673-7172.
Procession: The procession will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Graduates will begin lining up for the procession at 9:40 a.m. and follow Faculty Leaders.
Recession: The platform party and faculty will lead the recession with graduates following the faculty and recess in an orderly manner.
Commencement Printed Program and Media Releases: If you would like your name included in the commencement program and media releases, you must apply for graduation by April 1.
Distinction: To qualify for distinction during commencement students must have a 3.75 GPA or higher (including transfer credits used in degree requirements). Distinction candidates will wear gold cords and tassels during the ceremony and will be noted in the commencement program. Candidates will be notified by letter if they are to receive this distinction. Candidates who have applied for graduation for summer semester are not eligible for this distinction. The gold cords and tassels will be given to eligible students the morning of the commencement ceremony at the RSCC.
Phi Theta Kappa: Graduates must be a member of this International Honor Society to receive this designation at commencement. Members must purchase their gold stole and tassel from the PTK. Order early, allowing four to five weeks for delivery; priority shipping is available for an additional charge. To place an order, please call 800-946-9996. Seating: Family, friends, and the public are cordially invited to attend the free commencement activities. Because it is open seating, guests are encouraged to arrive early. Due to the Fire Code, strollers are not allowed inside the Ballroom. There will be an area just outside the Ballroom to store strollers.
Parking: Parking is allowed in any lot of the convention center, with Parking lot B being the closest to the ceremony entrance. Please DO NOT park in the Atlantis parking lots or any other surrounding property parking lots. Carpooling is highly recommended due to limited parking at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC).
Photographs: Sierra School and Sports Photography will be available before the ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. and immediately after to take your picture individually or with your family. Official Videos: TMCC will be videotaping the entire ceremony and DVD's will be available for $10. Check the TMCC website in June 2013 to order your DVD.
Diplomas: If you are a fall graduate, you may have received your diploma. If you are a spring or summer graduate, your diploma will be mailed to the mailing address you have entered in MyTMCC. If you have any questions regarding commencement, please contact the Admissions and Records office at 775-673-7042 or email graduation@tmcc.edu.
Note: Students and participants with disabilities are able to receive free accommodations, which enable equal access to the graduation ceremony. Seating is limited to 4 guests per student or participant. If you need special assistance, please contact the Disability Resource Center two weeks prior to the event. The day of the event, there will be designated staff that will be available for your immediate assistance. American Sign Language interpreters will be present. There will be no wheel chair availability at the ceremony.
