Commencement Information


2015 Date and Location

TMCC will hold Commencement on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino Summit Pavilion. Graduates, dressed in their caps and gowns, should arrive no later than 9 a.m.

Upon arrival, graduates proceed directly to the Tahoe Room to pick up their name card. Check-in tables will be arranged alphabetically; name cards are filed under last name.

The ceremony will last approximately two hours.

Family, friends, and the public are cordially invited to attend the free Commencement activities. Because it is open seating, guests are encouraged to arrive early. Due to the Fire Code, strollers are not allowed inside the Ballroom. There will be an area just outside the Ballroom to store strollers.

Free parking is available in any lot of the Grand Sierra Resort.

Decorum Back to Top

All participants are expected to dress appropriately in honor of the occasion and to exhibit mature behavior during the Commencement activities. All participants are asked to remain in the seating area throughout the ceremony.

Please make sure cell phones are silenced before the ceremony begins.

Commencement Program and Media Releases Back to Top

If you would like your name included in the official Commencement Program and media releases, you must apply for graduation by April 1.

Procession Back to Top

Graduates will begin lining up for the procession at 9:40 a.m. and follow faculty leaders. The procession will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

Recession Back to Top

The platform party and faculty will lead the recession, with graduates following the faculty, and will recess in an orderly manner.

Distinction Back to Top

To qualify for distinction during Commencement, students must have a 3.75 GPA or higher (including transfer credits used in degree requirements). Candidates will be notified by letter if they are to receive this distinction.

Distinction candidates will wear gold cords and tassels during the ceremony, and will be noted in the Commencement program. The gold cords and tassels will be given to eligible students the morning of the commencement ceremony at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.

Candidates who have applied for graduation for Summer Sessions are not eligible for this distinction.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Back to Top

Graduates must be a member of this International Honor Society to receive this designation at commencement. Members must purchase their gold stole and tassel from PTK. Order early, allowing four to five weeks for delivery; priority shipping is available for an additional charge. To place an order, please call 800-946-9996. Photographs Back to Top

A photography service will be available before the ceremony, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and immediately after to take your picture individually or with your family.

Students and Participants with Disabilities Back to Top

Students and participants with disabilities are able to receive free accommodations, which enable equal access to the ceremony.

If you are in need of special assistance, please contact the Disability Resource Center two weeks prior to the event.

The day of the event, there will be designated staff who will be available for your immediate assistance. American Sign Language interpreters will be present. There will be no wheelchair availability at the ceremony.
