Adult Basic Education

Literacy Program

If you need to improve your basic reading, writing, and math skills up to an eighth grade level, contact TMCC. The college offers these essential noncredit courses to adults who are at least 18-years-old.

You will be tested to assess your skills before you are placed in the program. TMCC will provide a special teaching program based on your individual needs, and you will receive one-on-one or small group tutoring. An eighth grade reading level is the program goal.

The literacy program at TMCC will help you to

  • Improve your basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Feel safe and comfortable while improving your skills.
  • Build self-confidence, so that you can fully participate in the community while reaching personal goals.
  • Enhance your job skills so that you can obtain a job or receive a promotion.
  • Reach academic goals, such as entering GED preparation courses and community college classes.

Tutoring sessions are held Monday through Thursday.

  • Monday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Students and tutors choose a two-hour timeframe within the four-hour time block.

Note: Volunteer tutors are always needed and welcome. Please contact us or to receive information on becoming a tutor.
