Adult Basic Education
Truckee Meadows Community College provides basic literacy education for adults who are at least 18-years-old. You can take classes in basic listening, speaking, reading, writing and mathematics in one-on-one instruction and group learning settings.
Literacy Program
TMCC's literacy program provides noncredit courses to help you develop basic reading, writing and math skills.
English as a Second Language
TMCC's ESL program offers noncredit courses in English as a Second Language to help you improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Citizenship
TMCC's citizenship program offers classes to prepare you, if you are a permanent resident, to take the INS interview, which is required for United States Citizenship naturalization.
Workplace Literacy
If you are a local businessperson who needs a corporate language program, consider TMCC's workplace literacy program. The program consists of three components.
- Training in English for the workplace
- Customized curriculum development
- Training in Spanish for supervisors
GED Program
TMCC's GED program prepares you to take the GED examination. The program covers the five sub-sections that are in the examination, including writing, science, social studies, literature and arts, and mathematics.
Note: If you would like to enroll in the literacy program, English as a Second Language or the General Education Development program, you must be assessed prior to enrollment and throughout the training program. Assessments are used to gauge what you need so that instructors can target specific areas of study. These assessments assist instructors in monitoring your advancement within and across each level.
